Our History

Founded in 1934, the Waialua Community Association is the first and oldest community association in Hawaiʻi, serving as a model for more than sixty others across the islands. Located in the historic gym across from the Haleʻiwa Post Office, the WCA has long been a cornerstone of civic life on the North Shore.

The WCA was born from the vision of brothers Frank and John Midkiff, who sought to make rural life more attractive and sustainable. With support from the Waialua Agricultural Co., Ltd., the Waialua Japanese Civic Club, and local residents, the WCA built its iconic gym in 1937 and was officially incorporated soon after.

For nearly a century, the WCA has hosted events, supported education, advocated for public health, and helped shape the infrastructure and identity of Waialua and Haleʻiwa.
